"Ethnic" dolls -- Asia and the Pacific Islands

Dolls (and fashions) representing people from the Philippine Islands in their native clothing -- various ethnic groups

The Ethnic Barbie collection is an extravagant and fashionable fantasy that depicts the tribal costumes of the northern and southern inhabitants of the Islands of the Philippines.  The manufacturer has gone through years of extensive research and discriminating material sourcing for the authentic, intricately hand-woven and beaded fabric which makes this collection so rare and valuable, and brings to life this ancestral Filipina characterized by the Ethnic Barbie.

Mattel Philippines (Richwell Phils, Inc.) -- A Fantasy of Ethnic Collection -- 1994 Filipina Barbie -- 1994

This is a rare Filipina Ethnic Barbie.  Barbie is wearing a very colorful and ornate beaded head piece that goes around her face.  Her black top has colorful beads.  Her skirt is made of a heavy hand woven cotton material.  She has a beautiful, colorful beaded belt, a real straw wicker basket.
